  I don't have vast experience in 3D or sims, started not long ago with Mantaflow, but I've quickly found it really invaluable if you plan to do Fluid sims in Blender on a regular basis: the ability to auto-save mid bakes,resume at chosen points while modifying settings and rerun partial sims makes Fluid sim in Blender as painless as it could be. It pays itself very quickly both in stability and days saved because of its flexibility.
  Not really my case but would argue it would be almost mandatory if you have to comply with deadlines.
  Its creator is also very active online and incredibly supportive!

  This add-on is an absolute must with Blender is you're looking to make some amazing visuals having to do with liquid. Flip Fluids keeps evolving which continues to blow my mind. Plus it's made by people that have great passion towards their product which in my opinion matters most and it shows! I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.

  Let me start off with this: This is UNDENIABLY the best fluid simulator for Blender and I use it all the time. I created a giant tsunami of coffee (yes coffee) with this sim and the final result looked incredible, but the process was maddening. If you are looking to guide your fluid to a precise location at a precise time, it will be VERY hard for you. First of all, baking at a low resolution and then switching to high resolution do not yield the same results, forcing you to bake tests at your final resolution. Secondly, this simulator does not run on the GPU, so baking high-res simulations is a very lengthy process (mine took around 75 hours at resolution 500 on an i7-7700k). Thirdly, after a full res bake taking over 3 days, there were strange line-like artifacts in my fluid, forcing me to start over with different settings. This was for a commercial project, so explaining my technical problems to my client was difficult. The project's release was delayed and I had to settle for a lower-res bake. Overall, this is great if you don't care about the exact direction or end result of your fluid, but iterating on a sim can be hard. In the meantime, I'll keep my eye out for GPU based liquid sims similar to Embergen's realtime smoke sim.

  One of the best fluids simulation plugins. User friendly and very fast.
  Does have some limitations especially with following a path and large scale simulations for more realistics whitewater and foams.
  The presets need a bit more works but are a good base to start off and learn from it.
  Using it on a threadripper 3970X did improve my simulation time by a lot from an i7 8700k. So it does scale well with cores. It has great potentials, keep it up.
