unobtrusive HDRi" *****

the right image? Oh yes!" *****

Instead of defining every single property, it's a smart node system that's reduced to a few parameters driving the whole scenery of light panels, balanced colors and contrasting shades.

quickly setup how reflections and background look

Intuitive parameters for colors (light base, color range, color bend)
Lets you span a harmonic colorspace based on the complementary colormodel.

The Light Panel's size, brightness, softness and anisotropy can be set to achieve the best reflections suiting your model.

Anisotropy pushes the brightness to one side of the panels, resulting in a sharp edge opposed by a smooth gradient.
Negative values push the opposite edge.

To break the smooth gradients, blinds are placed to block the light.
You can set their overall density and change a random seed number to arrange dark reflections where you require them.

The floor color and size and background walls color can be defined. The walls even have some edge darkness resembling studiowalls.
The Background can get detailed, with all that, so you can blur it with a DepthOfField Parameter, to achieve a calm non-distracting look at your model.
Notice that the reflections stay sharp and crisp despite the blur in the background.

Chromatic dispersion and additional backdrop light for refractive shaders help to finetune the shot.

About the Creator:

I am a 3D artist in the advertising & television industry for 25 years.
While working on projects and teaching animation at design college since 1998, i studied physics at the university of Vienna. That equipped me with a solid toolset of math to use in 3D workflows.

I started programming Blender add-ons and noding vector operations into shaders around 2012.

I love how Blender and Cycles offer a lot of opportunities to speed up rendering and fake depth and detail into surfaces in many ways.
