Electromag Nodes

Getting Started

Magnetostatics

  • Magnetostatics solvers only operate on curves.
  • You can either draw a curve or use geometry nodes to create procedural curves
  • Inductance "Scanner" FastHenry Example Files can be downloaded here

Electrostatics

  • Electrostatics solvers only operate on subdivided manifold meshes (limited 1500 vertices)
  • Create any mesh you like
  • Ensure the mesh is subdivided either done manually or using the Remesh modifier
  • Capacitance Solver FastCap Example Files can be downloaded here

Capability & Limitations

General

  • Electromag Nodes are an initial entry into the world of electromagnetic simulation. This initial version covers the basic fundamentals of electromagnetic and is based on simplified and theoretical assumptions. It is useful for those beginning to study and learn electromagnetics with various visualizations. Designs and geometries can be changed and modified with results reflecting in real-time. For example, you can change the number of a turns of a coil, and you will be to see immediately how the magnetic field change.

  • Electromag Nodes are by no means yet a full electromagnetic solver and certainly not a replacement for professional electromagnetic solvers.

  • However, the goal for Electromag Nodes is to make capable and viable solver that is quick and easy to use. Electromag nodes could be used to study and analyse initial and early-stage designs and concepts quickly before proceeding to a more professional and advanced solvers.

  • Electromag Nodes is an ongoing and active project and will keep on getting better with more features and capabilities to be added over time.

Electrostatics

  • Assumes surface charge, not point charge and not volume. Meaning electric charge is only distributed on the surface of an object and no charge exist inside. And so, this means that the object or mesh is therefore assumed to be a conductor.

  • Lite version: it assumed that the surface charge density is uniform over the entire surface area of an object. The is only true for objects that have a geometry that resembles a sphere. Most objects will not have a uniform charge distribution,

you will have to use the Pro version to obtain surface charge distribution
  • Does not calculate forces

Magnetostatics

  • Line currents (zero width), limited to DC current and low AC frequencies

  • Assuming air core coils only

  • Interaction with other objects not modelled, it is assumed that the object exists solely in free space with no other object near it
  • Assumes circular cross section.
  • Magnetic field calculation inside the conductive coil wire utilises using the geometry proximity node to model the decay in magnetic field inside a conductor
  • Does not calculate resistance, only inductance
  • Does not calculate forces
