Victorian Vienna Wall Clock

Illustrated documentation is included.

Please note that some materials used in this model make use of the Color Mix node.  If this model is to be used with Blender 3.4 and later, the Color Mix node will automatically be converted to the newer Mix node which replaces it, and should look and render fine.  However, once converted and saved with Blender 3.4 and later, the material will no longer work with Blender versions prior to 3.4.

Description:

A model of an antique Victorian walnut Vienna wall clock.  This clock features a shaped swan neck top and quality walnut case with turned columns and finials.   This clock dates to about 1860 and would look good in any period or contemporary scene. The clock hands can be set to any time, and the pendulum is animated.  The clock is of sufficient detail that it will render well in close-up.  This model makes use of Geometry Nodes to set the time, therefore, Blender 3.0 and newer is required for this feature.

Usage:

The model is contained in a single .blend file with all textures/images/materials packed inside.  To use it in your scene, you can append it as follows:

Go to the File Menu and pull down to Append

Find the “Victorian_Wall_Clock.blend” file and Double Click on it.

Double Click on the Collection icon.

Select the “Append_Antique_Wall_Clock” collection and Click Append

Positioning

Note that the model components are all parented to a master Empty Item represented by the large labeled axis.  The clock face is in the Z-up direction, and the master Empty Item is located on the back of the clock.  To easily position the clock on a wall, turn on snapping and select Face Project and make sure to check Align Rotation to Target.  Then, when the Empty Item is selected and dragged near a wall or vertical surface, the clock will snap into position.

Setting the Time

The hands on the clock can be set to any time desired.  In the Outliner expand the “Append_Antique_Wall_Clock” collection and select the “Hands” object.  With the Hands object selected, go to the object modifier tab and enter the hour (1 to 12) and the minute (0 to 59) desired.  The geometry nodes will move the hands to the correct position.

Pendulum

In an animation sequence, the pendulum is set to oscillate cyclically starting at Frame 0 with a 2 second cycle time.  No action is needed, however if movement is not desired, go to the Outliner and expand the “Append_Antique_Wall_Clock” collection and select the “Pendulum Rotator” Empty Item.  Open a Dope Sheet editor window and hit “A” to select everything and then hit “X” to delete all keyframes.

Technical:

The Victorian Vienna Wall Clock was modeled in Blender 3.3.1.  It uses PBR shaders with some procedural adjustments to color and bump.  The images shown were rendered in Cycles.  All materials work in Eevee as well.  If rendering in Eevee you will need to enable Screen Space Reflections and Ambient Occlusion in the Render Properties Tab.  Check Screen Space Reflections, expand this and check Refraction as well.

Dimensions:  Height 33.5” (85.1 cm)  Width 13.8” (35.1 cm)  Depth 7.1” (18 cm)
Vertex Count:  47,446
Face Count:  45,231
Textures:  4K PBR

Subdivision and Bevel Modifiers are used on some of the components to make the rendered result smoother.  These subdivision and bevel modifiers will display when rendered, but are not currently set to display in the 3D viewport.  They can be enabled by clicking on the viewport icon in the modifier properties tab for each part.
