Tree Bark Oak 01

by Polyphotonic in Surfacing

Setup for this material is relatively straight-forward. Add a Principled Shader to the desired object, then connect all of the texture maps into the corresponding node inputs:

Alternatively, you can download the sample .blend file included, then append the material to your own Blender project!

To do this go to File > Append in the main Blender menu, then browse for the sample .blend once downloaded. Select the Material library in the .blend and select the desired material.

When using .jpg texture maps, be sure to set the Color Space to "Linear" for the Specular, Roughness, Normal, and Displacement maps. Set the Color Space to "sRGB" for the Base Color map when using the .jpg texture. I recommend to use the .tiff image for the normal map, but the .jpg images can be used for all other maps. Using the .jpg maps can save a lot of memory!

Optionally, you can setup a displacement map to create hyper-realistic bump geometry! Add a Subdivision modifier to the object, then add a Displace modifier to the object with the displacement map selected for the texture. Tweak the Number of Subdivisions, and the Displace Strength to the desired values.
