Stickers

How to use "Stickers"

Align the sticker plane with the surface of the object on which you want the stickers to be applied.

With the sticker plane selected insert the object name in the Target space in the geometry nodes tab.

Nothing still happens because you have to drag the sticker plane towards the target object. The sticker plane has to intersect the target object.

Now you can play with the available parameters to obtain an infinite variety of sticker distribution.

If the surface of the target object is not flat the way the stickers bend might become a problem. They may not adhere properly to the target's surface. It can therefore be useful to increase the Subdivisions parameter in order to allow a better bending.

It is important that the sticker plane is properly oriented to the target surface, otherwise stickers will become distorted. To see the sticker plane orientation you can temporarily disable the Shrinkwrap (set it to zero).

When there are a lot of overlapping stickers it can happen that some of them penetrate each other. To avoid this increase the number of subdivisions and, if this is not enough, raise the Offset value.

Problematic surfaces

When the surface of the target object has a lot of curvature it may become difficult to let the entire sticker plane adhere on it. In this case I suggest to decrease the Stickers amount and the Stickers density values until there remains only one or two stickers. Now it becomes easier to apply the stickers. If you want more stickers just add other planes as I did for Suzanne and for the golf bag examples.

How to use "Stickers" in another blend file.

If you want to use the sticker plane in another blend file you can either:

  • copy the sticker plane and paste it in the new blend file
  • append the node group called Stickers GN or
  • append the object called _Sticker_Plane

Each of these operations will bring the sticker plane (and all the stickers available) into the new blend file.

Parameters available

  • Target: the object on which to apply stickers
  • Sticker amount: the amount of stickers
  • Sticker density: higher values create overlapping stickers
  • Sticker size: the size of the stickers
  • Random size: scale each sticker by a random value
  • Random rotation: rotate each sticker by a random value
  • Faded stickers %: the percentage of old/worn stickers
  • Ripped stickers %: the percentage of ripped/damaged stickers
  • Rip size: the size of sticker damage
  • Seed: this value randomizes the disposition of the stickers
  • Subdivisions: increase the resolution
  • Offset: use it to increase the vertical distance to avoid overlapping stickers
  • Shrinkwrap on/off: to temporarily disable the shrinkwrap

"Stickers" works either with EEVEE and Cycles render engines, but it can give different results.
