very usful but the hotkey ALT+LMB is not friendly for Industrial-compatible-keymap who use it to move viewport.Hope you can add an option to change it.

The most user friendly retopology addon and literally the most stable one.

An impressively intuitive and user-friendly tool, this add-on equips you with everything needed for a smooth, streamlined retopology workflow from start to finish. It integrates effortlessly with Blender, offering a comprehensive set of specialized tools designed to simplify the entire retopology process, allowing you to focus on the model’s shape and flow without getting bogged down by technical adjustments.

Each feature within the add-on is crafted to handle even the most detailed high-poly models, enabling you to build a clean, optimized mesh while preserving the original model’s details and form.

    Congratulations!

Wow, I could not have asked for a better review, your praise is very humbling...I wanted to make something as integrated with Blender as possible so its great to hear that feedback. I'll do my best to keep improving the add-on whilst still keeping it as integrated as possible. All the very best to you :) Mark

I’ve tried multiple retopology addons, and I can’t believe how user-friendly this one is compared to others! I only had to watch the tutorials once to feel like I’d been using it for a long time

That's so good to hear Gokhan I am glad the video tutorials helped, I tried to keep them as clear as I could but do reach out if you have any issues by clicking the 'Ask a Question' button on the right hand side of the page. All the best, Mark

Excellent addon for retopology on Blender. Easy to use and quite effective for a quick retopology of a mesh. I highly recommend it.

Very easy to use and to learn. It won't take much time before you become a retopo machine.

Does what it says on the box, really good and a nice alternative polyquilt. Being able to change the hotkeys would be nice but I can understand why you've done it this way. Though I wish you would change 'Smooth' to the shift key since that's standard, use 's' for strength and 'f' for focus.

Thank you for your review SW I’m glad you’re finding Quad Maker valuable.

You should actually be able to change the main keymaps by going to Edit -> Preferences -> Keymap in Blender and searching for "Quad Maker." Expand the smooth section. You should be able to change it to the Shift key by changing the second 'Type' box entry. Let me know if you have any issues.

However, the Shift key is often used in Blender for multi-selection and other core functions, which can limit its useability for custom hotkey assignments. For this reason the Shift key and other keys like Tab can be problematic to assign.

For strength and focus, these are more hardcoded so I decided to follow Blender's sculpting hotkey strategy, where 'Shift-F' is used for strength adjustment, to maintain consistency across different tools. It’s always a balancing act between adhering to established standards and allowing customization, so I appreciate your understanding.

If you have any other suggestions or questions, feel free to reach out by clicking the 'Ask a Question' button and I will see what I can do.

I've tried a bunch of retopo addons, this is by far the most efficient and userfriendly, almost everything I need I can access without moving my hand all over my keyboard.
The only thing I miss is a way to manually do knife cuts, maybe in an update it could be a subfunction of the R shortcut?

    • Mark Kingsnorth

Thanks ArjenM I chose the default shortcuts in the hope the user would keep their hand steady as much as possible.

I believe you can use knife cuts whilst using the tool by pressing the 'K' key, so send me a mesage by clicking the 'Ask a Question' button on the right if you are having issues.

I tried it without much expectation, and it was amazing!
I can work on retopology to my heart's content.(It might be Retopoflow killer.)
It can only create 4-sided polygons, but I can move and merge vertices, or dissolve edges without leaving the Quad Maker mode.( It can be considered to have the ability to handle N-gons.)

Thank you Yousuke Kita it's great to hear that Quad Maker exceeded your expectations. The focus has been on quads of course although it can handle N-gons in some cases. Hope the tool continues to be useful and all the best to you :)
