Procedural Cloth & Fabric Materials

by 5 Minutes Blender in Surfacing

When you purchase this product, you'll get a zip file that contains 16 blend files - one for each cloth material. There are 7 materials for cotton, 7 more for silk, and 2 suitable for curtains.

How to use these materials

1. You need to create a UV Map for your cloth object. It won't work without a UV Map.

2. Shape your object like a real cloth, or you can add Cloth Physics to it for a better result.

3. Append the cloth materials that you need in your project. You can also add the materials to the Asset Library so that the cloth materials can be used across multiple projects.

4. The default shader will give you a basic cloth texture, but you need to customize the settings for the perfect result that you need. Experiment with the various input fields available with our shaders.

5. Not only you can customize the fabric color or the scale, you can customize the noise level, smooth factor, amount of dirtiness to be added to the cloth, brightness and contrast. Talking about dirtiness, it is better to add some dirtiness for a realistic look. Without a little bit of dirtiness, the cloth may look somewhat artificial because no fabric is 100% clean in the real world. Same goes for the noise level.

6. You need to increase or decrease the fabric scale based on the scale of your cloth object or its size. A higher fabric scale will give you a finer fabric, and vice versa.

7. If the cloth looks extremely uneven, increase the Smooth Factor and/or reduce the Noise Level. If the cloth looks very ordinary, decrease the Smooth Factor and/or increase the Noise Level.

8. All the materials will work in Eevee as well as in Cycles, but you'll get the best results only in Cycles. So preferably use Cycles for these materials. If you are using Eevee and the result is noisy or bumpy, enable the option called "Optimize for Eevee". This will result in a relatively-better result in Eevee. Don't enable this option if you are using Cycles.

We are constantly improving the nodes and adding more materials. All future updates will be available to you absolutely free of cost. If you notice any mal-function or any bug, please report it to us ([email protected]) so that we can fix those issues and release an updated version.
