High-Poly Cycles Rapier &Amp; Flintlock Models

by ricocilliers in Models

Pirate Sword & Flintlock - Documentation This is a set of two well known pirate weapons: the flintlock and the rapier. These were created as part of a personal project, and I took special care to make them as realistic and accurate as possible, while at the same time trying to achieve that flamboyant look and style so typical of the early Victorian era. These are medium to high poly models with Cycles materials, suitable for use in animation or high-quality still renders. They are both UV unwrapped with custom UV textures applied. They can also be used as source models for baking to low-poly gaming models. 3D Models Both models are included in a single .blend file: “PirateWeapons_V1.0.blend” When using these models, please ensure that you are using the Cycles render engine. Also, to avoid compatibility issues, please use blender 2.74 or higher: Page1_Image1 On layer 1 you will find the Sword, which is divided into 3 objects: - “Sword” - “Sword_Sheath” - “Sword_Straps” On layer 2 you will find the gun, which is only one individual mesh: - “Gun” On layer 3 you will find a simple 3-point lighting setup: - “KeyLight” - “FillLight” - “rimLight” Materials Each piece of 3d geometry has 3 or more Cycles materials assigned to it. In total there are 10 materials in the .blend file. Sword model: - Sword_Metal (most of the larger metallic parts on the hilt have this material applied to them) - Sword_Handle (the material on the dark red handle of the sword) - Sword_Blade (the material assigned to the blade of the sword) - Sword_HiltMetal (some pieces of metal on the hilt have this procedural material applied to them) - Sword_GoldInlay (all the “gold” pieces of metal on the sword have this material applied to them) Sword_Straps model: - Sword_StrapsLeather (some of the leather straps have this material applied to them) Note: This model also uses the Sword_GoldInlay and Sword_Metal materials above. Sword_Sheath model: - Sword_SheathLeather (the leather material applied to the sheath model) Note: this model also uses the Sword_GoldInlay, Sword_HiltMetal, and Sword_Metal materials above. Gun Model: - Gun_Steel (most of the metallic parts on the gun use this material) - Gun_WoodenHandle (the wooden handle of the gun uses this material) - Gun_Patterns (the gold inlay patterns on the gun use this material) The materials are set up using Cycles nodes. To edit the materials you need to click on a material, then open the node editor in Blender for further tweaking. Note:- Almost all the materials have a Diffuse UV texture plugged into color-correction nodes (green nodes), which are then plugged into diffuse and glossy shader nodes:- Almost all the materials have a “bump” node (dark grey node) which control the displacement value of that particular material.- Some of the materials have “Scratch-map” nodes (yellow nodes) which control the intensity of the scratches on the surfaces of the models through a mix node.Page2_Image1Appending the models to a different scene: - Open your scene .blend file - Click File > Append - Find the PirateWeapons_V1.0.blend and select it - Go into the “Group” directory - Select “Gun” or “Sword” or both - Click “Link/Append from Library” Thats it! If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I will do my best to respond fast and explain anything that you may not understand. cheers, -Rico
