Cycles To Redshift Pbr Material Converter

by Ad Morris's Add-ons in Surfacing

What Does It Do?

Use this addon to convert Cycles and Eevee based PBR materials, utilizing texture maps from popular tools such as Substance, Quixel Megascans or Polligon; to Redshift materials in Blender in 1-click.

Specifically developed for PBR based workflows. This addon automatically converts map based Cycles and Eevee materials to their Redshift equivalents at the click of a button. With additional support for your own custom maps.

Use it in combination with third party tools such as Quixel Bridge and Xolotl Substance Painter Live Link to revolutionize your shading and rendering workflow in Redshift for Blender!

Technical Specification

The addon works with both PBR Metalness and PBR Spec-Gloss workflows and automatically sets up the equivalent Redshift shader based on name detection of the maps used in the source Cycles/Eevee material.

Maps supported
  • Diffuse/Base Color/Albedo
  • Roughness
  • Metallic
  • Gloss
  • Specular
  • Normal
  • Height/Displacement
  • Opacity
  • Translucency
  • Ambient Occlusion

The addon should automatically detect your PBR textures based on their name. However to ensure a successful conversion, make sure your texture nodes or maps include their respective map type in the name. For example - to detect a roughness map, either the texture on disk or the name of the respective texture node in the Cycles material should have the word "roughness" in its name.

Please Note

This addon will not convert ALL Eevee or Cycles based materials. It is currently only intended for PBR map based materials using linked texture maps. Other types of materials and a wider range of map types will be added in future.

Updates & Bug Fixes

Version 1.07, 28/03/2024:

                      • BUG FIX: Fixed a bug where the addon would fail to convert materials containing texture map nodes without output connections

                      Version 1.06, 12/02/2024:

                                          • NEW: Updated for compatibility with Redshift version 3.5.23 and Blender 3.6.5 (please note Redshift is still not officially supported in Blender 4.0 as of 12th February 2024)
                                          • NEW: Added support for the new Redshift Standard Material introduced in Redshift v3.5
                                          • NEW: Added automation to copy Cycles Pass Index values to Redshift Material IDs to use with AOVs
                                          • NEW: Added support for multiple UV maps (for material using Cycles UV Map nodes)
                                          • NEW: Added automation for assigning the space from the Normal Map node in the Cycles material, to the RS Bump Map processor node (e.g. auto sets the correct normal map space type)
                                          • NEW: Changed the default space of the RS Bump Map node to tangent-space instead of height
                                          • NEW: Added a Scale Maps node (RS Vector Abs) connected to all PBR maps for easy scaling (like the Cycles Mapping node)
                                          • BUG FIX: Fixed bug when converting materials created with Node Wrangler - Add Principled Texture and missing Cycles material output node
                                          • BUG FIX: Fixed bug where UV map wasn't assigned when using the addon with an object(s) with custom named UV maps (now defaults to the active UV map)
                                          • REMOVED: Deprecated old sprite technique used for opacity maps pre Redshift v3.1 (this technique can still be setup manually for optimizations with use cases such as foliage - see here for more information)

                                          • Added support for the sprite / cutout node (see here for more information)
                                          • Fixed a bug where translucency maps were being connected to the incorrect port

                                          Version 1.01, 20/07/2021:
