Cubicity: Creating & Utilizing Asset Libraries With Blender

by CG Cookie in Training

What kind of PC specs are best for this project?

You don't need a powerful PC for this project. All models are low-poly, materials are procedural (no image textures) and shared among the assets; few materials for many assets. Eevee is utilized for rendering. The only somewhat resource-intensive part is compiling the shaders for your final city assembly, especially the night time version since it has more lights.

What skill level is required for this course?

The style and workflow of this project are very approachable overall. Especially the way chapter 1 begins with low-poly models that are entirely based on primitive shapes. Honestly they're the kinds of models a first-time Blender artist can achieve. Only a basic understanding of the UI and modeling concepts would help.

Chapter 2 gets a little more difficult (intermediate) with concepts like modularity and procedural materials. Chapter 3 and 4 are the most difficult because they introduce some advanced topics like geometry nodes, semi-complex shader features, and library sharing.

The course really has something for every skill level.

Can I understand this course if I don't speak English?

Yes! .SRT caption files are included for each video in the course and .SRT's are easily translatable online. See the documentation page for more about caption files.

What's the difference between the CUBICITY Course and the CUBICITY Asset Library?

The course is a series of videos teaching the workflow for creating an adorable city by utilizing the Asset Browser (i.e. asset libraries).

The CUBICITY Asset Library is the library I created in the course plus CGC member contributions. It's a CC-O (public domain) resource and you can download the latest version here.

How can I contribute to the Official CUBICITY Asset Library?
As mentioned in the course trailer, CG Cookie is inviting students to contribute to the official CUBICITY library indefinitely. The vision is that the library will grow and evolve into a substantial CC-0 collection for anyone to use! However, contribution is reserved for CG Cookie Citizen Members due to the involved review and assimilation process.

If you purchased the course here but would like to subscribe as a CGC member and contribute to the library, send an email to [email protected] and we can deduct the cost of this course from membership.
