Antique Chest Of Drawers

Illustrated documentation is included with purchase.

Please note that some materials used in this model make use of the Color Mix node.  If this model is to be used with Blender 3.4 and later, the Color Mix node will automatically be converted to the newer Mix node which replaces it, and should look and render fine.  However, once converted and saved with Blender 3.4 and later, the material will no longer work with Blender versions prior to 3.4.

Description:

This is a model of an early 19th century mahogany and inlaid bow-front chest of drawers.  It is made of mahogany and mahogany veneer in a “Hepplewhite” style design.  The chest has three lower drawers with two top row drawers.  All drawers are banded by Satinwood and Holly inlays.  The drawers feature oval brass plate handles and ornate key-ways.  The model is of sufficient detail that it renders well in closeup.  The drawers are rigged by constraint to open and close.  This chest would look good in a period scene, but could also be used as a period focal piece in a more contemporary scene.

Usage:

The model is contained in a single .blend file with all textures/images/materials packed inside.  To use this model you can append it into your scene as follows:

Go to the File  Menu and pull down to Append’

Find the “Antique_Chest.blend file and double click on it

Double Click on the Collection icon

Select the “Append_Antique_Chest” collection and click Append

Note that the model components are all parented to a master Empty Item represented by the large, labeled axis.  You can move or rotate this Empty to adjust the location and orientation of the model.  Each of the drawers is parented to and Empty Item represent by a wire-frame sphere.  To pull out a drawer, select its sphere empty and press G to move it. Constraints prevent motion and rotation in any direction other than in or out.

Technical:

The Antique Chest of Drawers was modeled in Blender 3.3 and utilizes PBR shaders with procedural color roughness and bump adjustments.

Dimensions:  W 42” (106.7 cm)  H 40.2” (102.1 cm)  D 21” (53.3 cm)

Vertex Count:  49,491

Face Count: 48,397

Textures: 1K, 2K, 3K PBR with procedural adjustments.

This model makes use of Geometry Nodes on some of the components and therefore requires Blender 3.0+.  Subdivision modifiers are on some of the components to smooth the rendered result.  These modifiers are not currently set to display in the 3D viewport, but will  display when rendered.  They can be enabled in the viewport by clicking on the viewport icon in the modifier properties tab.  All images were rendered in Cycles.  Materials work in Eevee as well.  If using Eevee, enable Ambient Occlusion in the Render Tab.
