Antique Candlestick Telephone

by Ed Ackerman in Models

Illustrated PDF documentation is included with the model.

Please note that some materials used in this model make use of the Color Mix node.  If this model is to be used with Blender 3.4 and later, the Color Mix node will automatically be converted to the newer Mix node which replaces it, and should look and render fine.  However, once converted and saved with Blender 3.4 and later, the material will no longer work with Blender versions prior to 3.4.

Description:

This is a model of a Western Electric 20 “Candlestick” telephone that was made circa 1910.  These phones included a base, stem, mouthpiece, and receiver. The mouthpiece rotated from frontward facing to upright to accommodate different users.  The early candlestick telephones had only a single “hook” switch (no dial or buttons) to connect to an operator who completed the call.  The model contains two differently textured versions of this phone.  One new, and the other used.  This phone can be used in a vintage or noir scene as well as an antique prop in a modern scene.  The model has an adjustable mouthpiece.

Usage:

The model is contained in a single .blend file with all textures/images/materials packed inside.  There are two versions, one new, and the other used.  To use either one (or both), you can append it into your scene as follows:
Go to the File Menu and pull down to Append
Find the “antique_candlestick_phone.blend” file and double-click on it.
Double Click on the Collection Icon
Select the “Append_Antique_Phone_Used” and/or the “Append_Antique_Phone_New” collection and Click Append
Note that the model components are all parented to a master Empty item represented by the large labelled axis.  You can move or rotate this Empty to adjust the location and orientation of this model.
Note also that the mouthpiece components are parented to an empty shown as a wire sphere at the back of the mouthpiece.  This sphere can be rotated to adjust the angle of the mouthpiece.

The antique candlestick telephone was modelled in Blender 3.1 and uses PBR shaders.
