3 Points Align

The usage is very simple please watch this VIDEO

Installation

  • Go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Install > select downloaded .py file and enable add-ons checkbox
  • Add-on will be available in the 3D view in by pressing Alt+T hotkey (by default)

How to use

  1. Select two polygonal objects in order: Target (object to be aligned) and Source
  2. Run add-on by pressing Alt+T (by default)
  3. Draw 3 lines by connecting the target mesh vertices with the source mesh vertices.
  4. Press Enter to confirm Align

Available options (redo menu)

Match Distances Match Distance 1 with Distance 2 by scaling the Target object.
Show Origin Show/Hide Target object origin.
Set Transforms Recalculate Target object transforms based on aligned surface and world axis.
Center Origin Works only with Set Transforms. Set origin to the center of mass of the Target object.
Invert Origin Works only with Set Transforms. Inverts the selected axis of origin.

Tips

  • Created line could be edited by clicking on one of the vertices.
  • You can exist drawing line mode by pressing ESC/RMB.
  • If the selection is incorrect (more/less then 2 objects, non polygonal objects), the add-on runs a selection validator with tips for user. 
  • If the selection is correct (2 polygonal objects) - the validator will be skipped.
  • To don't get confused when drawing lines: think of the lines as rubber bands that squeeze when align confirmed.
