Meet the Maker: Antoine Bagattini whose addon Bagapie is "Just great!" and "Designed with a lot of heart"
Antoine is the creator of BagaPie, a free add-on for architecture and environment design in Blender 3D, born out of his passion for procedural art. It primarily uses Geometry Nodes and offers a comprehensive set of tools for scattering, procedural generators (stairs, fences, pipes, construction elements, etc.), random arrays, and an ivy generator.
To support the development, I sell additional assets for BagaPie. I've also created three paid add-ons: BagaRain Generator for rain, BagaIvy Generator for realistic ivy, and Quick Compo for compositing presets.
What inspired you to create these products? What problems were you trying to solve?
BagaPie began as a personal project to address my own needs for a basic tool that adds and pre-configures modifiers in Blender, driven by my deep passion for Blender and its community. When I decided to share it for free, I never imagined it would become so popular. As it gained traction, I released a paid asset pack to dedicate more time to BagaPie, contribute to the Blender community, and provide professional-quality tools that help users elevate their work.
How long did the initial development take and how many people were involved? Did you hit any snags? Feel like giving up? Find any exciting enhancements along the way?
Development has been progressive, making it difficult to quantify the time spent. Updates usually take 15-30 days for geometry nodes and scripting and another 15 days for visuals and product pages. Initially, I worked alone, but now there are two of us as the main team members, with an occasional collaborator joining when needed. We continuously adapt to improvements and technical limitations, focusing on addressing specific needs with each tool or add-on while staying modest, passionate, and committed to delivering high-quality, professional solutions.
How much time do you spend on support and updates on average each day now that the product is available on Blender Market?
Updates typically take 1-2 months, and the number of people involved varies. I spend around 30 minutes to 1 hour daily on support, driven by our passion for helping the Blender community and maintaining a high level of professionalism (and I kindly remind users to restart Blender when updating add-ons and to update them when changing Blender versions).
Do you have another job/responsibilities outside of your work on Blender Market? How do you balance supporting and updating your product as part of your daily life?
Our team consists of two main members: myself, with an architecture background now focusing on archviz, and my collaborator (and girlfriend) Laura, a 3D generalist artist. Both of us are deeply passionate about Blender and its community. Add-on development complements our freelance lifestyle, offering flexible workloads and fitting well with the rush and downtime periods of our other jobs.
We're grateful to live off our passion while maintaining a serious commitment to delivering professional, high-quality tools.
What is your favorite response you've gotten from a customer who used your product?
My favorite feedback comes from seeing users' amazing creations made with our tools, which often surprise and delight us. These moments remind us why we're so passionate about our work and motivate us to continue providing professional-quality solutions.
What's next for you? Any exciting projects on the horizon?
We're currently working on two significant projects, one in partnership with a major industry player (#ProjectPB).
Additionally, I have been collaborating with another developer for months on a new add-on, driven by our shared passion for procedural art and commitment to delivering professional tools.
We've also recently released GeoPack, a free BagaPie tool that enables users to create custom tools based on geometry nodes, group them, and share the packs with others for their benefit. Users can freely share or even sell the packs they create with GeoPack.
