Quad Mesh Deformer - Micromesh.
This is a micromesh modifier for Blender created with Geometry nodes.
It uses a Collection of objects and deforms them across any mesh with a Quad surface.
Material ID on the base object dictates which object from the collection will be projected onto the face.
The UV direction of the base object controls the direction of the projected/deformed object. This gives greater control than other solutions and is very quick to use and experiment with in that you can 'hot swap' collections freely.
Control the thickness of the deformed object in a uniform manner or paint thickness with Weight Painting to vary the depth across the surface of the object.
Uses range from creating scales, chainmail, fences & detailed fabric.
This is very similar to other software's micro mesh function but with more control.
**Updated to allow for UV re-projection, allowing a texture to be re-projected onto the micromesh. Also increased speed by checking only edge vertices are merged. See Jumper.blend for the update**
