IMPORTANT

If you are using Blender 4.2+, it is best to install the addon using the file gizmap-1.2.0.zip

For earlier versions of Blender, you will need to use __legacy__gizmap-1.2.0.zipotherwise it will not install.

Overview

GizMap is a (deceptively) simple and intuitive addon that lets you control any material’s mapping (translation, rotation or scale) from within the 3D viewport, based on the cursor’s location on a mesh.

It is setup so that cursor movements on the mesh are linked with a vector Gizmo, which is then linked with a mapping node (either automatic or user-selected). This means that any cursor movement in 3D space can then control either translation, rotation or scale in the mapping node.

This lets you drag, rotate and scale decals, PBR textures and more by direct interaction with the mesh:

GizMap supports UV and Object mapping, with complex calculations done under the hood to ensure cursor movements correctly adjust the mapping node inputs based on the mapping type. Plus,  for UV maps, rotation and scaling are both centred on the Gizmo location on the mesh, allowing for more precise control of the mapping.

GizMap also integrates seamlessly with PBR Painter, allowing you to control the mapping of layers, masks and custom node groups without having to set anything up:

So definitely check that out, and consider taking advantage of the 50% off coupon for GizMap offered to PBR Painter users (pbrpainter50)!

Plus, in GizMap v1.1, you can now quickly and easily adjust the mapping of all the materials on your mesh, without having to swap between them:

And now, in GizMap v1.2, you can use a special type of Object mapping for decals, which is perfect for when UV mapping is not ideal:

To make it even better: other than the initial install, no setup or configuration is required to use GizMap - simply open up your material of choice, select your desired mapping node (or have GizMap automatically find it for you!) and GizMap will do the rest.

If you want a more in-depth description of how to use GizMap, with example applications and an explanation of what's happening under the hood etc, check out the official introductory video on YouTube.

Happy GizMapping!
