Ivypen Add-On

by Ignacio Matey in Addons

This add-on for Blender 3.3+ allows you to add and cusomize ivy in an user-friendly way.

1 -INSTALLATION

For installing it just install the zip file. Then the add-on will appear on the sidebar of the viewport (press N). If is the first time that you are using the add-on you will need to click on Append, so the Geometry Nodes node and the materials that the add-on needs to work will be appended on you blend file.

2 - MAKE AN IVY:

Click on the object in which you want to add the ivy and then click on create ivy. Blender will automatically go to to edit mode and then you can draw it with the pen tool.

PARAMETERS:

  • Object: object in which the ivy is climbing.

  • Leaf : with the add-on I provide my own textures of ivy leaf, but you can always add yours. Just watch out to put the origin of their origin in the proper place and use a proper rotation and scale so the instances are not messed up. Also it needs to be in a collection.

Collection of leaves provided in the Add-On

Here I used a Lollipop as a "leaf"

  • Density branches: how many branches the ivy will have (CAUTION: a high density implies more calculations so your Blender might crash, wach out when you increase this parameter )

  • Density leaf: how many leaves the ivy has (CAUTION: a high density implies more calculations so your Blender might crash, wach out when you increase this parameter )

  • Extension branches: how close the branches are to the original curve.

  • Max/min size leaf : how big/small are the max/min size of the leaves.

  • Radius branches:

  • Ivy trim: from 0 to 1 you can trim the ivy until it reaches the lenght of the curve.

  • Scale/amplitude noise: controls how small/big the places without branches are.

  • Remesh inflation: for being able to use this procedural set up in all types of geometry (from a simple cube to photoscaned meshes) a remesh is done inside the Geometry Nodes setup. This parameter fine tune this remesh so it can be addapted to the geoemtry, for example if the ivy is to far from it or if the ivy seems to don't appear.

3 - FUTURE VERSIONS:

Future versions might include:

  • Optimization improvements (probably with new nodes that will come with next versions of Blender)

  • New species of hanging plants with new geometries, like hanging brranches or connections between different objects)

  • Procedural wind

Let me know what do you think about it and, if you find any problemm please let me know, I'll be happy to help.

Thanks!!
