Point Density Magical FX Pro Edition
With Blender 2.76 the developers introduced a powerful new feature to the Cycles realm: Point Density Textures. Thanks to Cycles they can be integrated deeply into your scene. These effects are sure to add a little magic to YOUR renderings. The results are great for use in motion graphics and absolutely essential for VFX. Point Density Textures in Cycles open up a whole new world of magical effects. This package contains four ready to use templates you can quickly integrate into your scenes or exchange the elements in the template to create intro and logo animations. In addition it includes demo files showing how the templates could be used. It also contains a PDF documentation for every template, a thorough documentation of the point density feature in Cycles which is in PDF format as well and all the video lessons from the training edition which allow you to learn all you need to know about point density in no time.
Overview of the four video lessons:
The video course is split into four lessons, each focusing on a different aspect of point density:
1: Basic Magic: Discover how to use Point Density in conjunction with particles to create an effect that is really versatile and can be used in many different situations. The example scene is a logo reveal with a point density effect as background. It is also shown how you can put the effect into other scenes to create ghosts.
2: Flaming Hull: Learn how to use Point Density with object vertices. The example scene is a bullet with a flaming hull revealing a logo. The setup can easily be adjusted and imported into other scenes to create flaming hulls around any object.
3: An Ocean of spheres: Point Density textures still have some limitations. This tutorial shows you how you can overcome them by creating a setup that looks like point density but uses Blenders stock tools. The result is a cinematic logo reveal you can easily adjust using a texture.
4: Smokey: Point Density can be used to fake smoke. You will learn how you can create a wisp of smoke that curls around a logo, revealing it that way and disappears. This is a style of smoke that was not possible in Blender before.
What is included? An overview:
- 4 Blender templates
- PDF documentation for each template
- 5 additional demo files showing how the templates can be adapted to different needs
- Video training showing how the templates can be created from scratch, teaching you all aspects of point density in Cycles in the process (4 lessons)
- Starter .blend files for the video training lessons
- Thorough PDF guide to point density textures in Cycles
- .blend of the promo image for you to dissect
Updates are free!
We at BlenderDiplom see a lot of potential in Point Density Textures in Cycles. It is a powerful feature already, but there are so many more possibilities. The current roadmap for Blender and Cycles development will only make them more powerful in the near future. We will keep the product updated if there are relevant changes. Updates are free!
I completed your PD Magic FX lessons yesterday. You really have a gift for creating tutorial videos, Gottfried. The videos were at the perfect pace to follow along and you clearly explained each step along the way. Congratulations on a great series - Kevin Healy, Scientist.
Point Density Magical FX is great! It will take you from not knowing what this effect is to being extremely comfortable with it. Definitely recommended, especially if you're doing any kind of visual effects work. - Sean Kenney, OpenVFX
Templates don't need to be expensive!
Usually, templates for 3D and VFX software cost a lot of money and come with lot's of restrictions. Even for non-commercial use they usually start at $30 a piece and if you plan on commercial use, a common price is $90 or more, and even then many restrictions still apply. Here you have the chance to get a total of four templates for just $37, free for commercial and non-commercial use!
Point Density Magical FX by BlenderDiplom comes in two flavors. The Pro Edition that is presented here and a Training Edition that skips the templates and PDF documentation and features only the training videos. It is available on BlenderMarket at a price of $27.
Terry Wallwork of Adventures in Blender wrote an extensive review on the BlenderDiplom Point Density Magical FX Pro Edition. His conclusion: All in all an excellent product that is reasonably priced and very well described. Review Score: 95%.
Download the .ZIP (roughly 2.4 GB) and unpack it. Inside you will find a PDF file that contains the documentation of the point density texture in Cycles, the .blend of the promo image and four folder. Inside each folder are the template file, demo files, demo images and videos, starter .blend files and an .mp4 video lesson on the effect that should play on any modern device and video player.
Every template comes with instructions in the .blend and in PDF format. Each template is designed so that you can either use them directly like for example replacing text or logos or by linking / appending the main elements into your own scenes.
The PDF documentation consists of 8 pages A4 and features 14 figures. If you are familiar with The Cycles Encyclopedia, you get an idea of the style and quality of the PDF documentation. It explains Cycles Point Density Textures in detail and leaves no questions unanswered.
Point Density Textures in Cycles are very powerful already but they have just recently been added to Cycles so they might get additional features or general improvements. In that case the documentation will be updated.
Point Density Magical FX Pro Edition was created by Blender Foundation Certified Trainer Gottfried Hofmann, founder of BlenderDiplom.com.
The demo files are examples how the templates can be used. You will get all files used to create the teaser and the images you see above. All textures used in the demo files are CC0.
